About The Study:

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among salary earnings, educational attainment, community support, resilience, and the career success of Haitian professionals. This study will benefit society by presenting the findings that highlight the achievement of a foreign-born minority group in the U.S. and hopefully, impact additional research that may help advance talent, learning, and career success for persons who have the audacity to hope and dream of a better future in America.

About The Researcher:

Yselande Pierre is a researcher and doctoral candidate of Adult Education and Human Resource Development at Florida International University. Her research interests are career development, career success, design thinking, and event management. In her role as a doctoral candidate, she is interested in researching career success in underserved and underrepresented communities. The community she is beginning with is her mother and father’s home country–Haiti. Yselande is a lifelong-learner who loves to use her time, talent, and treasure to educate and be of service to individuals who value education as a pathway to change the home, society, and world.

Yselande Pierre earned a bachelor’s degree in English, master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, and a certificate in African Diaspora Studies from Florida International University. She earned a certificate in Professional Writing from the University of Central Florida and her associate’s degree in Health Service Administration is from Keiser College.

 

Dr. Thomas G Reio

Dr. Thomas Reio

Dr. Thomas G. Reio, Jr., Ph. D. is a Professor of Adult Education and Human Resource Development. Dr. Reio has extensive experience in the area of graduate studies, having experienced considerable success teaching and advising doctoral and master’s level students. He teaches graduate classes in adult education and human resource development, educational psychology, and research methods. His research concerns taking a sociocultural view of curiosity and risk-taking motivation and their links to learning and development across the lifespan, socialization practices (e.g., mentoring), and workplace incivility. Dr. Reio is a principal investigator and co-chair of the research team. 

Dr. Haiying Long

Dr. Haiying Long

Dr. Haiying Long, Ph. D., is an Associate Professor in the Research, Evaluation, Measurement and Statistics program in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas. She received a dual major PhD degree in Inquiry Methodology and Educational Psychology at Indiana University. Prior to joining KU, she worked as a faculty member at Florida International University. Her research is at the intersection of methodological issues in educational research and substantive issues in educational psychology and has focused on quantitative methodological issues, validation and rater effects issues, rater-mediated assessment, large-scale data analysis, project evaluation, creativity, motivation, achievement, and STEM education. Dr. Long is a principal investigator and co-chair of the research team.
